Leaflet Delivery as a form of marketing

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Trudging around delivering leaflets can be a joy, and likewise, can be a nightmare!  It’s great on a sunny day, in a nice area, and you can have a great few hours.  Especially if there’s a few of you, you can have a great time.  However on a day like today where the weather is at best ‘changeable’ and at worst ‘filthy’ there is little fun involved.

However, we wanted to gauge how effective our response from the leaflets was, so I devised a quick and easy way of measuring the response using an Excel spreadsheet.  From this we can see that our efforts in the last two weeks have provided us with an income per leaflet of 44p!

Now that might not sound an awful lot, but if someone said to you, here’s a hundred leaflets.  Deliver them and I’ll give you £1.85 per month, every month, you’d probably think it was a good deal.  Carry that forward to figures like 5000 leaflets, which can easily be achieved in a month, and it’s giving you an income of around £100 per month, every month.

Again, it’s not an exact science, and the figures will bob up and down, but it’s nice to know on a cold, rainy April Monday afternoon, that each leaflet is bringing in the bacon.

Marketing business sales gimmicks

When it comes to selling their products businesses are increasingly using more and more eye catching marketing sales gimmicks to help promote and sell their goods. A few of the many different sales gimmicks on offer are below.

Supermarkets in particular are famous for the BOGOF, buy one get one free promotion that most of them run these days.

Supermarkets also often have gimmicks such as receive 40% extra free, spend £50 minimum and get 4p off a litre of petrol at their filling station.

Supermarkets often have gimmicky reward schemes like saving stamps and reward vouchers that can be collected and then traded in to receive discounts.

Club books are renown for buy now pay nothing for six months or even a year and then take 20 weeks to pay using interest free credit.

Double glazing companies often use a gimmick such as buy the upstairs windows and get the down stairs free.

Cars can often be purchased brand new and driven away from the show room for as little as £99.

House builders often have various gimmicks like we will pay your first three months mortgage, they will carpet out your new house, cash back schemes are also getting very popular, they will pay your stamp duty or take your present property as part exchange.

Another famous gimmick is if you find the same item cheaper else where within usually a few days then they will offer a refund of double the difference.

There are of course many more marketing sales gimmicks out there, maybe you could add a few of your own and see how many we can come up with.
