Are they all much of a muchness?

Well the answer to that question is most definitely no. 

There are various cleaning franchises that specialize solely in domestic cleaning, some of these you are expected to get hold of the duster and work yourself (manual work), where as others you merely manage cleaners and clients (management franchise).  Usually a domestic cleaning management franchise can prove to be more profitable as overheads are much less and expansion is much easier and quicker due to low overheads and the domestic cleaning work contracted out on an agency basis.

Several types of cleaning franchises specialize solely in commercial and industrial cleaning or a combination of the two.  These are usually hands on businesses or as you grow them they require you to employee staff and also run a PAYE system.

There are also many other specialist cleaning franchises such as oven cleaning, carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning etc, all of these franchises you need to actually go out and do the manual work yourself.  In my mind although probably I am slightly biased I would prefer the management style franchise against the manual job type one!
