Have you ever noticed how one job/chore always leads to another? or am I just really clumbersome.
I attempted to clean my kitchen earlier: Started with the washing-up, just a few breakfast pots and a banana skin. Pots nearly done, go to cupboard with waste bin, struggle with child lock see bin is full. Empty bin, bag splits, re-bag waste (last bag - remember to write on shopping list). wipe mess from split bag off floor. Finish pots drop glass, smashes. brush up take outside to bin. Vaccuum any last glass shards… Damn vac needs emptying now. Empty vac puffing dust all over. NO HOOVER BAGS!!! use Henry without a bag to hoover dust up.
Woof woof! Dog wants to go out, let out.
back in house wipe sides in kitchen and set out ornaments nicely, Clean cooker hobs knock over ornaments that had been arranged nicely a moment ago, put right again. Fill up mop bucket, phone rings, answer phone, come back, bucket overflowing. Tip out water, mop floor…. Done!
Grab a coffee, milks leaked in fridge. clean up make coffee.
Woof woof!! let dog in.
OMG why cant the dog wipe it’s paws…… Why bother!
Moral to the story is… Don’t Bother - leave it to somebody else!
(never did write bags on shopping list!!!)

Have you ever wondered why we chuck the pets in the garden, open all windows and completely bottom the house?
Back in the old days of coal fires and straw matresses it was standard precedure for the housewives to clean the house from top to bottom. The idea was to wait for the winter chill to dissappear and completely freshen the house up. The housewife would clean out the fireplaces and the soot in the house created by the fires, this included the floors. walls, ceilings and furniture in all rooms.
There was often a smell which built up over the winter period due to not being able to air sheets and blankets. Spring was a chance to be able to hang out the laundry after washing and feeding through a mangle. The matresses were normally emptied, washes and refilled with fresh hay.
Jews believed that bread was a forbidden food during ‘passover’ So spring was a chance to remove every last breadcrumb from the house before passover which is in April.
Persians believed in completely bottoming the house in which they called ‘khooneh takouni’. In English ’shaking the house’. A similar tradition is the Scottish “New Year’s cleaning” on Hogmanay.

The most likely origin of spring cleaning can be traced right back to the ancient Jewish practice (over 700 years prior to Persian culture emerging) of comprehensively cleaning their homes in readiness for the spring-time holiday of Passover.
In remembrance of the Jews’ hasty flight from Egypt following their captivity there, during the eight-day holiday there is a strict prohibition against eating anything which may have been leavened. Jews not are not only supposed to refrain from leavened foodstuffs, they are expressly commanded to rid their homes of even small remnants of chametz for the length of the holiday. Therefore, for the past 3,500 years, observant Jews have conducted a thorough “spring cleaning” of the house, followed by a traditional hunt for chametz crumbs by candlelight on the evening before the holiday begins.

The origins of spring cleaning are thought in some quarters to date right back to the Iranian Norouz or the Persian (Iranian) new year, which falls on the first day of spring. This theory although as been questioned, because Iranians and many of the population of the old Persion empire lived by a lunar calendar and not a solar calender and spring was never calculated many years ago in the same way that our present day society calculates it.
Present day Iranians still continue their regular practice of “khooneh tekouni” which literally means “shaking the house” just before the start of their new year. This practice means that everything in their house is thoroughly cleaned, including their curtains and furniture.

Builders cleans explained
A builders clean is usually a very intense clean that will require a lot of hard work. A builders clean is a totally different type of cleaning exercise to that posed by a regular weekly or fortnightly clean. Builders cleans are much more intense and deep clean than many of the other types of clean that can be carried out with in domestic accommodation.
Builders cleans are usually performed in brand new properties or properties that have under gone major alterations. The builders clean will often require the last remnants of the builders materials been removed such as off cuts of wood, plaster splashes that require removing from floor, plastic film removing from windows, doors and kitchen units etc.
Usually a builders clean takes place prior to the carpets and final decorative items been fitted with in the newly refurbished or built property.
Due to the previous point builders cleans often require the cleaning company to be available at short notice and to also be completed by a strict deadline because of other companies such as carpet fitters working also to strict deadlines!

Regular fortnightly light cleans
A regular fortnightly light clean is usually very similiar to a regular weekly clean apart from obviously been once a fortnight instead of weekly. The same as regular weekly cleans regular fortnightly cleans are not as intense or as deep as many other types of clean that can be carried out within peoples properties.
Regular fortnightly cleans are usually performed in properties that are already cleaned to quite a respectable if not actually an high standard. Usually the cleaning lady/maid will help out by doing regular fortnightly light cleaning tasks such as vacuuming the property, lightly cleaning skirting boards, polishing, general light kitchen and bathroom cleaning maintenance, cob webbing, dusting, mopping floors plus lots of other every day household cleaning jobs.
A regular fortnightly helping hand clean can also be described as a keeping on top of clean. Properties that are already at a fairly good level of cleanliness a regular fortnightly light helping hand clean is all that should be required to maintain satisfactory cleaning standards within the property.
Due to the fact of been every other week, fortnightly cleans do usually rely on the householder to be much more hands on in keeping their home clean.

One off cleans
One off cleans can be quite in-depth cleans or alternatively just simply a quick clean that as been caused due to a regular cleaning maid being ill or away on holiday.
A cleaning business or cleaning maid when performing a one off clean will firstly liase with their customer to determine the cleaning jobs that are required by means of an initial site visit.
After the initial site visit the cleaning business or cleaning maid will return at a pre agreed date and perform whatever cleaning tasks were agreed to the satisfaction of the customer. This can include amongst many other cleaning tasks, washing of the walls, cleaning inside cupboards, cleaning kitchen units, ensuites, bathrooms etc. Most domestic cleaning companies will also often offer their customers a carpet shampooing service if this is deemed a necessary requirement of the one off clean.
When the domestic cleaning company or cleaning maid as finished cleaning the customers property the property should be cleaned to a standard that meets with the satisfaction of their customer.

End of tenancy cleans
Domestic cleaning can be performed in many different forms ranging from simply a straight forward weekly helping hand type of clean right through to the very intense military march out type cleans that are required by serving members of the Armed Forces. In this series of posts I am attempting to describe in detail many of the the various different domestic household cleans and what sort of cleaning service a customer could reasonably expect to receive.
End of tenancy cleans
End of tenancy cleans or end of let cleans as they are sometimes also referred as are quite thorough in depth cleans that are undertaken once a tenant as vacated a landlords property in preparation for the next tenant to move in.
A cleaning company or cleaning maid when performing an end of tenancy clean will go through the property from top to bottom hoovering, cobwebbing, washing the walls, cleaning inside cupboards, kitchen units, ensuites, bathrooms etc. The maid or cleaning company will also often offer a carpet shamooing service if this is deemed a necessary requirement.
When the domestic cleaning company or cleaning maid as finished cleaning the property the property should be cleaned to a standard that is suitable for the new tenant or tenants to move straight into with all their belongings without having any cleaning worries.

Domestic cleans by weekly rotation
Household domestic cleaning can be performed in many different ways ranging from a simple weekly helping hand type clean right through to the intense military march out type cleans. In this series of posts I am describing in detail many of the various different domestic household cleans and what the customer could expect to receive.
Domestic cleans by weekly rotation
Domestic cleans by weekly rotation can be best described as where the householder as stipulated that they would like one room per week or on each visit cleaned to a much higher standard than the other rooms in the property. Many householders choose this type of clean as their preferred way of having their property cleaned due mainly to the fact that they know that every few weeks each room in their household as had a deep clean performed within it.
The cleaning lady when performing this type of rotation cleaning operation for example will if she is in the customers property for say three hours per visit spend 50% of her time spring cleaning just one room per visit and the remaining 50% of the cleaning ladies time will then be used doing a very quick clean throughout the remainder of the customers property.
